Women will be one of the groups most affected by the brutal cuts in public services:
  • In New Jersey, the budget for family planning services was COMPLETELY eliminated, even though a recent study cites over one million women between the ages of 15 and 44, in that state alone, are in need of these services.

  • The California Department of Public Health’s domestic violence program was reduced by 20%, even though the Bureau of Justice Statistics reported domestic violence reports are UP 20%. 85% of domestic violence victims are women, and studies by the National Institute of Justice establish the link between a falling economy and an increase in cases of domestic abuse against women.

  • In California, a cancer-screening program for low-income women was cut when the minimum age for free mammograms was raised from 40 to 50, leaving working-class women without a potentially life-saving service.

  • Rhode Island’s cuts in public services eliminated health insurance for home-based child care providers, the vast majority of whom are women.
